Fast times at broken-lcd high
STUPID! STUPID! STUPID! STUPID! STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!

Ok. Here’s what the deal is.
I packed up on saturday evening to head in to work, figuring “I’ll put in a bunch of hours, and life will generally be good”. Did the normal “leave the apartment” stuff: got dressed, brushed teeth, put wallet in pocket, put keys in other pocket, put cell phone in key pocket, put digicam in wallet pocket. Grabbed a bite to eat, grabbed a bottle of water, headed out to work.
Got to work, sat down, started doing normal work stuff … updating systems, telling systems to stop emailing me, etc (which worked out great, by the way. Now I only get email if something’s going on that warrants my attention). Then I got up, and thought “I wonder what a long exposure shot out the window will look like”. This is of course around 11:30 on a saturday night, so I’d probably get all sorta nifty car-driving-by action, which’d be cool.
Well, I looked at the LCD, and it looked a little funny. So I powered it on, to find that it had a huge spiderweb of cracks, and the entire display only shows either straight-up black or straight-up white. Liquid Crystal indeed…
So… my camera’s lcd is dead. Canon’s probably going to want about $160 to replace it. Word on the street (and courtesy my roommate) is that I can probably beat that by doing it myself, or alternately taking it to a nearby camera shop…
I’m thinking I’m going to pursue the camera shop idea, on evaluation of the differences between that and sending it to canon. It’s likely that I’ll save $80ish by doing that, which is pretty worthwhile. 9 hours of takehome pay? Yeah, I’ll keep that thanks…
Meanwhile, I got caught up in the stuff I was doing at work, and stayed for about 13 hours. So, one way or the other, the paycheck I get in 2 and a half weeks is going to be pretty dang nice. Especially since now my sleep schedule is pretty screwed, so I’m going to be going in to work as soon as I’ve dried off and had some breakfast. Probably staying there until classtime, and then coming back. So at least I should HAVE the money to fix it.
In other life updates (left turn time! WHEE!) my dad thinks I’m avoiding him, because he’s called me twice and I was asleep for one of them and underground (and thus nonresponsive) for the other one.
(another left)
Went to a coworker’s birthday party on friday. Much alcohol, none of which I was particularly interested in. It was …. a bit more “happening” than me, and not knowing anyone except for the person whose party it was, I didn’t really feel comfortable. So I ended up bailing after about 15 minutes … but hey, at least I made a social appearance. I never was any good at a party, except for extremely nerdy ones. Which I guess brings me to feeling really isolated and alienated lately… other than my roommate and people from b-a, I don’t really have a social circle right now. All of my friends (and I do mean ALL of my friends) have graduated and moved away, or were never here to begin with. I really miss my old friends from back home, these days. And I think I’ve been here entirely too long now, without having any real mobility. It’s like I can feel the rut that I’m in getting deeper…
(Another left, we’ve managed to cross over something or another, now)
My mom’s having her gallbladder removed. Good luck to her on that (and yet another thing for me to watch out for when I get older … add that to the list of diabetes, heart conditions, cancers, deteriorating allergies, bad teeth, etc … great …). Meanwhile, my grandma’s systemic cancer continues to worsen, and even optimistic members of my family are measuring the time she’s got left in months.
(and one more left. back to the main point)
On top of all of that, my compilers project is basically unstarted and due at the end of the week. But, if I can spend a bunch of time at work, that should help that out a bit… since I can work on it while at work so long as I’m available when people have random stuff for me to do.
I think I’m going to need some coffee in about 20 minutes if I’m going to stay conscious past class today though.
