staying here

So, it’s Christmas. 8:30 in the morning on christmas, and I’m recompiling my fileserver’s kernel, remotely.

Why? Because it needs to be done, I need the money, and there’s probably nobody in my lab to notice right now.

Still, the fact that I can do it remotely saves me a lot of grief. I’m just happily sitting in my nice warm apartment, it’s nice.

(some time passes, busily recompiling the kernel, making sure things are in order, doing some cleanup)

It’s now 8:50 am. I’ve been “at work” for 45 minutes or so, I’ve rebooted my fileserver into its new kernel (2.6.14-gentoo-r5 with reiser+acl support, w00). Things have come back up nicely, and everything seems golden.

I’m going to do the same with my other two big servers. I can’t update the firewall’s kernel yet, ’cause the mppe-mppc patch isn’t out yet. *sigh*

So yeah … I’m a geek, what can ya do?

Merry Christmas, ya?
