One less WMF vulnerable computer on the net
Yep. That’s right.
Well … actually it’s more like 16 less, because auto-updates should be kicking in in a couple minutes and rebooting the remaining systems in my lab …
Bah. Who cares
. I’m happy MS did the right thing and released the patch instead of waiting until “patch tuesday” to do it.

You’d think the natural response among Windows users would be something along the lines of:
“Hmm, this operating system is wasting a lot of my time with viruses, ad-ware, and one vulnerability after another. Perhaps I should take a small fraction of that lost time to investigate other solutions.”

As a pragmatist (yay relativism!) I should point out that (a) there are a lot of things that linux and os-x can’t do that windows can, and (b) there are a lot of things that linux and os-x can do that windows does quite a bit better.
I could elaborate. But I don’t think I will, because it’s entirely too close to sunrise for that.

I hate defending a “bignastyomgevil” corporation like MS, but …
Part of why so many vulnerabilities are found is because lots and LOTS of people … like 99.999% of all hackers out there … are looking for them. Underdogs like Apple and Linux are seen as the “good guys” but could easily turn into the “bad guys” if one of them gained pre-eminence.
Just take a look at Google. They were praised (and still are today) but some rumblings at how they do business and hoarding of information are making them look like another “bignastyomgevil” corporation.
Look out! ads!
