new toys
So, it looks like I get to get some new toys…
Turns out, the proposal I wrote up made some people very happy … even though I didn’t even remember writing it! Medium-term memory? Who needs it!
So, I get to plan on about $8000 across two servers. They’re going to be database/content servers for the biosecuritycenter site, hosting course materials and such — hopefully in awesome and transparent ways. Sun doesn’t seem to be flogging exactly what I want for the price I want it anymore, so I might have to look elsewhere … but still, getting to spend 8 grand or more on server hardware makes me happy! WHEE! Now if only they’d get me a new laptop, and let me do the gigabit lab upgrade project, and upgrade those last four rdram-era p4′s… and let me take over and remodel the grad office and turn it into a server room … *sigh* … wishful thinking.
Meanwhile, on monday my director posed a friday deadline on the activedirectory/sharepoint project. Which would be fine, because it’s essentially done (needs some finishing touches, but it’s functional).
And in other news, I’m trying to remember all of the places that I have passwords, so I can change them all. So far I’m up to 46 distinct locations, across which I’ve got 7 distinct logins and at least nine distinct passwords. Of those nine distinct passwords, they’re all derived from permutations of a single rule, with vastly varying levels of complexity.
I … totally don’t remember where else I might have accounts at this point. But 46 places that I could think of off the top of my head … that’s pretty hard to remember, even if there’s only 9 passwords and 7 logins.
Cripes.
Of course, all of this is at the same time that I’m fast approaching both a significant project (due wednesday) and a substantial paper (don’t even know when that’s due, how sad is that?). What horrible timing.
