Paul Graham knows his shit

Paul Graham knows his shit.

That’s all I’m sayin’

Those worried about America’s “competitiveness” often suggest spending more on public schools. But perhaps America’s lousy public schools have a hidden advantage. Because they’re so bad, the kids adopt an attitude of waiting for college. I did; I knew I was learning so little that I wasn’t even learning what the choices were, let alone which to choose. This is demoralizing, but it does at least make you keep an open mind.

Yo Dave. I like Paul’s comments he made. It’s like … a recipe to be competitive with the US. I might disagree with some points, but on the overall I think he is mostly right.

An interesting comment to me was the fact that he uses recent history to explain why Europe essentially caved in and stopped being super-competitive. I wonder what the world would be like today if about half of the European population hadn’t been all-consumed by war for the first half century of the 20th century. Would they still be as competitive as Americans? Would they still be a colonizing force? Such ruminations are bound to be useless though … time will tell what the world has in store for us.
