just what I need: another dying drive or two
*sigh*
Subject says it all. /dev/hda (the newer system drive, recycled old 120 gigger) is throwing occasional seek errors, and just incited a reboot of the server. /dev/hdh (recently retired) is throwing smart errors.
I’m goign to … err … move away from using those drives for anything important now <_<… anyone want to donate some cash towards getting me a 750 to consolidate on?
At work I had a windows 2k3 install nuke itself randomly. Another that had a memory-leaking winlogon.exe that had eaten its entire free vm and chewed into swap space. I guess I’m just going to have to plan for weekly reboots on those things, and maybe go back to the idea of setting up big brother or some other monitoring solution…
So, in the last week (and a little change), I’ve reinstalled a work linux desktop, my home winbox, a work win2k3 box, and now I’m probably looking at another linux install in the next month or so. The idea of burning off a bunch more data, trimming down the music, and consolidating everything down to like 2 disks in the desktop is getting a bit more appealing … if only the money were there. I’d _love_ to replace my whole fileserver with a 10W network appliance.
