OK. So I was thinking about this fairly randomly…

When you’re a ninja, your life is hard. If you get injured, even a little, it’s probably fatal. You’re running on a mission, and take a kunai to the shinbone, you’re done for.

If you’re a pirate, and you’re running on a raid, pillaging some village, it doesn’t matter if you lose a limb. A high-functioning pirate can lose one whole leg (replace it with a peg leg) and a hand (replace it with a hook). Alternately, he can lose an arm (probably no good replacement for that, but he’s still got one good one, that’s all you need). He can lose an eye, he can lose his teeth, he can lose one or both ears. He’s STILL able to kick ass, and in fact losing a limb makes him a MORE fearsome opponent (see also: the hook-hand, the eyepatch).

So yeah, pirates are indeed better than ninjas. At least more durable.
