definition in the moment: a good day

today’s been pretty good. Not great, but pretty good.

I woke up at around 7:30 am. Had a bit of trouble sleeping because of the humidity, but got enough rest despite the fact. Woke up and it was pretty dark out … clouded over and raining, that whole “fall back” idea is sounding like a good idea about now…

Why did I wake up at 7:30, you might ask? And well you should! It’s unusual for me to be awake that early at all, right? Well, I had some homework to finish up… and finish it I did! Last night I gave up after an hour or so of staring at it, and just came home to relax and mull things over and sleep. When I woke up, the answer to the first sticky problem was just sitting there in my mind, and the second just sort of melted about an hour later. Got stuff written down and cleaned up a bit, and had time to grab lunch and page through the exponent at a fairly leisurely pace (and no, nothing about their box0rs getting r00ted yet, *disappointment*).

Well, anyway, it was a bit cool out, but warm enough that I didn’t bother with a sweatshirt or anything. Turns out, it’s been right about the perfect temperature for a large, hairy man of northern-european descent to be wandering around in a t-shirt and sweats. I was really, really comfortable all day.

Well, the rain kept me from taking care of the stuff I was planning on doing after class, so instead I just chilled out at work, where I fixed a long-running problem with mod_rewrite (turns out, using it in .htaccess requires you to allow overrides … who’da thunk? :p). So it was nice getting that resolved.

Got gotwoot updated. Between yesterday and today, everything on the site except vbulletin is updated to the latest version — got the needed php, apache and wordpress updates, scrapped the modded half-broken wordpress for a clean install in a separate dir. Fixing things up generally went pretty smoothly too, it knocked the torrent page’s cache out of date for a couple minutes, but things are much nicer now.

As an extra bonus, a geico ad in the exponent included a sudoku on it, and it was a pretty high-level one. Had to do set exclusion stuff to solve it. 2 sudokus for the price of one, and one of them was the oh-so-rare (by exponent standards) 5-star… quite possibly the coolest piece of advertising I’ve ever seen.

For icing on the cake, it’s payday! Haha! I have a bit of money again!

Yeah, I’m feeling pretty happy in general right now, and I can’t help but think that today, if any day, has been a good day. I just thought I’d share.
