Disjoint Thoughts on a First Day
Rosslyn’s escalator is insane. From wikipedia:
As the neighborhood is situated on a bluff overlooking the Potomac River, while the shared rail line into Washington passes through a rock-bored tunnel, Rosslyn station is quite deep—the deepest on the Orange and Blue Lines. Its platform lies some 97 vertical feet below street level (though its ceiling is nearly 60 feet high). It features the third longest continuous escalator in the world, at 205 feet 8 inches; an escalator ride between the street level and the mezzanine level takes 159 seconds.
I’ll take a picture tomorrow. The escalator tunnel throws off your sense of “up”, and I frequently found myself leaning in odd directions.
Work environment seems ok. There’s a lot of random hardware.
Badge machine being broken isn’t fun. Got my keycard, but no id badge.
Some office politics seem to be there, but nothing too bad. Hopefully shouldn’t be a problem.
I have a lot of things to learn about before I can be even remotely useful.
Need more sleep.

The last time I was in DC, I too was amazed at seeing my first underground railway. So I took pictures and was threatened with a ticket if I didn’t stop. Apparently they frown on people taking pictures of public utilities in the nation’s capitol. Threat level: futia – amused.
