Two weeks

Wow … that went pretty fast…

Tonight will mark the two week anniversary of the end of my last job. Still no new job. Had a face-to-face interview with a place that was too far away and wanted a windows admin, and had a phone interview with a place that was closer and wanted someone to stay late and run lots and lots of reports. Neither turned out, apparently.

Feedback from the face to face was largely positive, saying they liked me but didn’t feel like I had a strong enough background in the windows server side of things. Which is how it is, ’cause I don’t really want to be a win admin. No feedback from the second yet…

I’ve been working on getting an interview scheduled with this place in McLean, which is about 2 hours by metro and bus, but apparently more like 25 minutes by car… which is not bad considering it’s like 5 minutes by car to get to the highway…

So I’ve been thinking… if I’m limited to metro-accessible jobs, I am basically finding nothing closer than the far side of DC, or like … silver spring, largo, arlington or alexandria. All of those are … quite a ways away, like >1hr door to door (rosslyn was an hour and 10 minutes base, plus an average of probably 10 minutes of delay twice a week due to the metro breaking down randomly).

Yeah, so I’m sick of having 11 hour workdays for 8 hours of paid time… so I think I’m gonna get a car for my next job, regardless. But first thing’s first, and the first thing’s getting the job …

Honestly, I haven’t had that much time that’s really been “off” though … even on President’s Day I had two phone calls from various recruiters. It’s nice to be in demand, but I’m starting to feel itchy about the need to capitalize on that demand. I figure I have about … 2 months without income before I end up in about the same place financially that I was when I started working at the last job…
